Halloween at Wexford Wildfowl Reserve, October 29th-31st
- To celebrate Halloween and the arrival of the Greenland White-Fronted Geese, we have a list of activities for all the family in the Visitor Centre throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.
- Starting at 2 PM, Saturday to Monday, we have a Goose Presentation and Bird Watch. We start with a talk about our White-fronted Geese and why they winter on the Slob. We will then go bird-watching in the Observation Tower and Jobson Hide. Child-size binoculars will be provided, anyone with their own binoculars and telescope are welcome to bring them. If we can't see our wild geese, we can look at the resident geese in the grounds of the Visitor Centre and see up close what makes these birds as remarkable as they truly are.
- At 3 to 4 PM on Saturday and Sunday, the Education Room will be open. Look at our collection of stuffed animals and bones and learn how many of our native animals deal with the problems of Winter.
- At 3 PM on Monday, this being Halloween, there'lll be a Bat Presentation even as the bats of Ireland prepare to bed down for the Winter. A little late in the season perhaps, but a little bit of spookiness and a look at these amazing and harmless animals won't hurt
- And all day, all through the weekend, visitors will be invited to help with our own CSI Wexford, as we will have Skulls Of The Dead on show, the skulls of different native Irish animals will be on display. The questions we will ask won't be 'How did they die?' but 'Who were they?' and 'How did they live?'. Question forms with clues will be available, fill them in and hand them back for a free poster.
